Sports and Physical Activity

What are Sports and Physical Activity?

A questionnaire that maps children's sports participation and physical activity levels. The questionnaire covers areas such as swimming, cycling, club sports and physical activity outside of organised sports. There is a version for general education and a version specifically designed for special education.

Why does this matter?

Physical activity is one of the most important pillars of healthy development. Children who are sufficiently active develop better motor skills, maintain a healthier weight, sleep better and perform better in school. Yet many children do not meet the recommended physical activity guidelines. To change that, you first need to know where things stand. Without insight into children's actual activity levels, you cannot intervene effectively.

What are the risks of insufficient physical activity?

Children who are structurally inactive are at greater risk of overweight, weaker motor development and lower fitness. But the consequences go beyond the physical. Inactive children are more likely to experience concentration difficulties, sleep problems and lower overall wellbeing. In the long term, inactivity at a young age increases the likelihood of an inactive lifestyle in adulthood, with all the associated health risks.

What does it deliver?

An overview of how active children are, which sports they participate in and where they are physically active. At group and school level, you see patterns: how many children are members of a sports club? How many cycle to school? How active are they outside of school hours? These insights are valuable for the school, but also for municipalities, districts and community sports coaches who want to tailor their programmes to actual needs.

Connections worth noting

Physical activity levels often show a direct relationship with gross motor skills: children who are motorically stronger tend to be more active. Conversely, inactive children are more likely to have motor delays. Combined with biometric data, you can see whether inactivity correlates with an abnormal BMI. And at group level, you can use the questionnaire to measure the effect of physical activity interventions: has activity actually increased after a programme?

Available for special education

In special education, insight into physical activity is equally important, but the context is different. Children with physical disabilities, behavioural challenges or developmental delays often have different activity patterns than children in general education. The specific version for special education takes this into account, so you get a reliable and appropriate picture of sports and physical activity for this group as well.

"Finally a tool I can use in a single lesson that immediately shows me where to focus. That gives me back time I can spend with the children."
